Week 3

Learn how to ask for what you need

What

Welcome to Week 3 of Crabwalk’s 5-Week Program. This week, we’ll be teaching you a simple framework for how to ask for anything with confidence.

Why?

Asking for help can be daunting for any number of reasons. It can feel like you’re putting yourself out there with the risk of validating a fear you have about yourself, your career or your worth overall. It can also feel inappropriate or selfish to ask for things. Sometimes, it may just be that you’re not even sure what to ask for. So why is this really important? You will move a lot faster (and feel supported in the process), if you crowdsource support as opposed to going at it alone.

Tips + Tricks

Tips for a successful ask:

  • Research them

  • Reach out to relevant people for relevant asks

  • Have a specific ask

  • Stay with them in their world

  • Be human and authentically you

  • Count on asking many people, not just one

A template to practice asking:

  • Get related: “Hi! …”

  • “I’m reaching out to you because __________”

  • “I’m looking to... [my goal]”

  • “What I’ve done so far is __________”

  • “What I’m looking for next is __________”

  • “Would you [ask for something! (be specific!)]”?

  • Regardless of their answer, thank them and make sure you’re both clear on next steps.
